Just a few hours ago it was announced that Everton had signed Ajax talisman Davy Klaassen for around £26m. This signing comes in with a club record fee of £30m for one of the stand out performers in the league last season Jordan Pickford. Pickford has been in high demand since his breakout season at Sunderland last season and we at Touchline Football predicted Ronald Koeman to sign the English U-21s International. But with this coinciding with Davy Klaassen what are Everton Planning?
Everton over the past few season have been hovering around the Top 7 trying to break into the top 4, but with the top 6 gradually making it a league of their own Everton have a lot to do to catch up with them. It’s no doubt Everton needed a quality goalkeeper for next season and they’ve got that and more with Pickford. The Englishman has a presence at the back and has no fears to shout at his defence in a motivational manner and at a young age he can become something great at Everton.
As for Davy Klaassen he seems to be Koemans answer to Ross Barkley a very underwhelming player for his last season. With Ronald Koeman losing his patience with Ross towards the end of last season and this signing taking place iuts clear Barkley is on his way out. Everton are in a bit of a resurgent but with all this i still think the club are a way off the top 6 and it would take a club in the top 6 to have a terrible season for them to break into it, Time will tell.
